Re: Women's March on Washington.
The man isn't perfect That is, shall we say, an understatement. I've now had the misfortune of poking around his YouTube page (I don't recommend doing this BTW) and learning about him. I haven't had the opportunity to verify some of the accusations about him but it seems pretty much undeniable from...

Re: Women's March on Washington.
It seems Chicago had one of the bigger marches. Certainly it was clear even on the El train there that turnout was going to exceed expectations. Only encountered two pro-Trump people there. Everybody just ignored them. Overall it gave me hope that people can stay active and engaged. We're certainly ...

US Election Day
I had an easy time today. Chicago provides tons of polling places so mine was a very short walk away.
I encourage anyone who is eligible to vote and in particular to pay attention to all the races on the ballot, not just president. Those other offices can have a big impact on your life.

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
Not sure if it adds much to the discussion, but I did find this blog post on Luna, Jessica, and Mia. Just as an aside, I did ask the blogger over Google about the whole Pao sickness sub-plot, and he argued that, while it was problematic, Jess and Mia were pro-active and important enough to the plot...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
I use the terminology because I do not have a single influence on my idea of what male and female is, and I see the terms used frequently. If you mean a reference to the "manosphere", I don't agree with them on very much. I hear the terms in several different places, mostly used in a joki...

Kyle is an alpha male to counter that...Nash can help absolutely NONE with the leadership, because he's a beta after Miss July because she's pretty. Even setting aside their popularity among some really terrible communities, "alpha" and "beta" are not really useful terminology f...

Re: New Home
-When touring a home, it's considered a major faux pas to refer to the "room" you are in. Instead always refer to it as a "space." Is the idea that it's a space until people fill it with their own stuff fashion it to their artistic vision? Honestly, I always just assumed it's pa...

Re: New Home
Too bad you didn't come to me for advice. I mean, I've never bought a home but I have seen some HGTV so I know all about the process. -Your list of "must haves" should include granite countertops and undermounted sinks. -Other important considerations are any furniture or paint color choic...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Just started Final Fantasy IX . I never did finish it the first time I played. Really the issue at the time was that I was burned out on Final Fantasy and needed to play something different. Then by the time I would've been ready to pick it up again it had been too long and it just sort of fell by t...

Re: Zombie Invasion on Facebook!
Update time. Neither of my friends has tried to contact me but, perhaps not surprisingly given how Rodan and Fields markets itself, one has tried the pitch on my wife a couple of times via Facebook, mostly in the form of invites to virtual events. She's just been ignoring the invites. However, I was...

They definitely toned it down a lot in their later years, but there were still a few slipped in. Off the top of my head I remember a soldier in Growlanser III saying "what's so civil about war anyway?"

Re: Zombie Invasion on Facebook!
This American Life did a segment on Wake Up Now back before they shut down. Apparently the idea for the segment came from watching a few videos advertising WUN that left the viewer with absolutely no clue what it actually was. I watched a few of their videos and they all focused on how wealthy you ...

Re: Zombie Invasion on Facebook!
There's a couple of reasons why the pitch can be seductive beyond just the dream of easy money (which of course turns into "it requires hard work but once you've built your own successful business then you're on easy street" once you discover you're not making any money). First since MLMs ...

Re: Zombie Invasion on Facebook!
My friends are in Rodan and Fields (skin care) while my wife's friend was/is doing It Works (the body wraps I mentioned earlier, homeopathic and herbal products). They haven't tried to recruit or sell to me. I don't know if it's because they're just focusing on spamming Facebook or if they haven't g...

Re: Zombie Invasion on Facebook!
Well, "invasion" is perhaps dramatic language given that its only a couple of my friends who went into the same MLM together, but I wanted to fit in with the "zombie" theme because when this happens it's really like the person becomes a zombie who is only capable of talking about...

Zombie Invasion on Facebook!
I've heard of this happening before, and now sadly a couple of my friends have been infected by Multi-level marketing (MLM) zombies, and as everybody knows, once you're infected by a zombie, you become one. One day you're a human posting about your daily life or whatever interests you, and the next ...

Re: Any big events anyone is going to?
And @Imperial Knight I just did my background research.. More than anything I appreciate a good comedy act. Was it stand up, though? Just curious. Yes, it was stand-up. The comedy style was much heavier on stories than on quick jokes, and indeed a lot of the humor derived from the ways in which two...

Re: Welcome to the future!
Back to the Future Part II is actually one of the first movies I can remember seeing in theaters. The funny thing with the original is that I first saw it on a VHS my family had made by taping it off of NBC and, since it was one of my favorite movies growing up, I watched that VHS many times, to th...

Welcome to the future!
Today is the day Doc Brown, Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker travel to from 1985 in the Back to the Future Part II . They're set to arrive at 4:29 PM Pacific Time. Break out your hoverboard, turn your pockets inside out, and get ready to fax news of the Cubs finally winning the World Series to all yo...
