Re: Dead Genre Chronicles podcast: Lunar SSSC
Just finished listening. Yikes, I was not expecting it to be that negative! I agree with some of their comments, such as the guys being terrible people in general while the girls, despite being admirable, are mostly tied down with them. I was never really bothered with some of the jokes like the bad...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
Attempting to get this train back on the original track: I think Jess was overall a good character. She was independent, cool, funny etc. The one thing that struck me as odd was how Mia inherited Vane, but Jess never inherited Meribia. Maybe she inherited Meribia sometime after the main story? That...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
If my views are ugly, you better stop enjoying Lunar so much, because it has traditional views of relationships, just like I do. No women are stronger than men in Lunar, and all women, at least at one point, get taken care of by a man. The characters ALL express that they want and enjoy this. What ...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
Oh, man. This discussion got really ugly while I was away. It makes me wish I never started this topic. :( Poor Mia is supposedly stuck with Nash, an absolute weakling. She is very weak herself, and sure, she found the strength to destroy her home, and use Vane's potential, but, she's a gentle spiri...

Re: Vintage magazine feature on TSS
Looking at the character poll , I have a few thoughts: - Alex ranking higher than the other male characters really kicks the "nice guys finish last" fallacy to the curb. - Why the lack of love for Mel a.k.a. Cat Dad? Sure, he's old, but he still leaves a good impression. :( - Ramus ranked ...

In defense of Lunar: Legend...
Am I the only one who thinks that despite the game's flaws, it at least feels like the developers had their hearts in the right place? I feel like some of the changes added to Lunar: Legend are actually quite welcome. Granted, it doesn't fix all of the story problems (there are still lingering plot ...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
I noticed that if you talk to the old man outside the room in which Jessica and Mia are after you lose to Ghaleon at the Grindery, he says: Jessica is so much like her mother. Even on the verge of exhaustion, she uses all the strength she can muster. Helping to repair the broken bones of the wounded...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
She means that the noble ladylike act she puts on in front of her father isn't actually hiding who she is, it's just showing a different side of herself, because she's both the noble lady and the adventurer. Hmmm... I can see why some people would call BS on her speech then, especially since there ...

Re: Tempest and Fresca
Eh, Lunar 2 doesn't have the same gender issues as Lunar 1. Jean and Lemina never ended up as damsels (no, being locked up in prison with the rest of the party doesn't count), and they have fully-fleshed out arcs that didn't involve love interests (Lemina laments in her diary about not being able to...

Re: Tempest and Fresca
Someone told me the whole point of the sickness affecting the girls was to put Kyle, Nash, and Tempest's plights on par with Alex's by putting all of their significant others in danger. Of course, this was coming from someone who was just playing through the game, so it was probably just conjecture ...

Re: Tempest and Fresca
Going back to TSS, I get the impression the point was to make Grimzol's cave harder since the monsters in that dungeon are pretty tough. The only spell caster you have to rely on is Nash, whose spells aren't nearly as useful or versatile as Mia's. I just wish they had done something to rectify the g...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
Just for further reference, I managed to get some screen grabs of the Japanese script of Jessica's speech (in order from left to right, top to bottom) off a play through I found on niconico. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa96/GeneralOlde/jessicajapanesescript_zps8ysbqsq7.jpg And reposting for f...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Recently finished Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Definitely a high point in the franchise, featuring the humor the series is known for while adding in more dramatic elements without feeling forced at all. Alister Azimuth is a great one-off character who provides a stark contrast with Rat...

Re: Tempest and Fresca
That does make a little more sense. Anyway, back to Tempest and Fresca. It seems like a waste to have Fresca, Jessica, and Mia all strapped up and ready to go after the guys only for the guys to walk right in. What was the point of that? Was that just to tease the player? "We were going to help...

Re: Tempest and Fresca
No problem. Although I can appreciate the writers' attempts to tie Pao in with Alex's quest to become Dragonmaster, it actually created more issues than fixed. The girls getting sick in the original also comes off less distracting and less emotionally-manipulative as Jessica stays up long enough to ...

Re: Tempest and Fresca
I've been doing some thinking on Tempest and Fresca (and Pao in general), and honestly I think the game would have been stronger without the Pao arc. It adds too little to the story and it's over and done with too quickly to leave much of an impact, especially in the remakes. The reveal of Luna bein...

Re: Spells in Lunar 1 and Lunar 2 versions
Someone in a thread on HCBailly's forums was doing a comparison between the SCD and PSX versions of Lunar 1's party members. His conclusion: Mia and Nash are overall more useful in the PSX version, Alex and Kyle were better in the SCD version, and Jessica didn't change much between either version. ...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
The part that I think is poorly-worded is where she doesn't draw the distinction between acting ladylike and hiding who she is in front of her father -- a good resolution for her arc is for her to drop one (hiding who she is) and accept the other (acting ladylike) as part of her character, alongsid...

Re: Jessica: strong female character or missed opportunity?
I don't remember the line in context, but if it's to be read as it says, it suggests that she's realized that she didn't have to live this double life all this time, that her father could handle it. I mean, she's realizing now that she didn't have to do it then . For context the full quote is: &quo...
