Here's an interesting question: why are we getting it first? Shouldn't it come out first in Japan?

Because the US release date still hasn't been updated.

The Japanese release date is most likely on-target. Add about a month or two for the US release. KF

I know it's wishful thinking, but it would be great if we did get it in July.

I can't speak for Lunar: Genesis, but Shining Force: Ressurection of the Dark Dragon was Japanese-developed, released in Europe first, then in the US, and finally in Japan. It's a global market these days. It's not common for the US to get something before Japan, but it's not unprecedented. Lunar: Genesis could possibly be one of the exceptions.
