What if I told you...

What if I told you that the OST for Lunar SSS on saturn was meant for Lunar 3, but since they knew they couldnt make the game for whatever reasons, they just gave it to the Lunar1 remake instead?
Has it been talked about why the music was different?
Just a random thought I had.

It was likely different in the remakes simply because it's a remake. Kind of like how manga and anime endings are often very different from one another. You do or have done one thing with one medium, then when presented with another medium you go a different route.

A similar situation can be seen across all the LUNAR Silver Star remakes though. Consider also LUNAR Legend and Silver Star Harmony. Both of those also have music sets quite different from the original, but both also have their own ways of tying themselves into retaining the overall LUNAR 'feel' with their OSTs.

As much as some people I feel don't like Dragon Song much, I feel it's music conveys a good sense of what a "LUNAR 3" may sound like.

Hehe well I know that the result of the music change was that they just simply went in a different route about making the game,
so I only asked what you would think IF that had been what Lunar 3 had sounded like.
Cause TSS and SSS aren't even remotely similar!

Yes I agree about Lunar DS's OST. I liked it very much actually.
Buuuut it was still rather weak. I mean, some songs borrowed a lot from SSS. More than SSS did from TSS, which was almost none! Others, like a Rainy forest and dungeons, and some specific battle themes were also not very Lunar. They were great but they didn't feel like Lunar, that's all.
The main battle theme is the one that sounds like Lunar the most! Then the titlescreen theme and some towns and places, some character specific themes all sounded right to me too.

But of course the ideal thing would be if Lunar3 had a really heavenly OST that steps up from Lunar2.
Man I can't believe I haven't given up hope. Why must bad games be so eternal, and eternal blue be so temporary?

Perhaps we can ask Noriyuki Iwadare why he decided to go a different direction from the original music on the Sega CD to the music found in the remake.

I think it was copyrighted, I understand that Studio Alex was no longer involved in developing the remake, so the story and the music were changed to avoid a lawsuit by Studio Alex, Game Arts and Studio Alex fought for rights to the game, so step development game Arts remake with Jam team

Wikipedia (Studio Alex was a Japanese video game development firm. It was founded by respected programmer Kazunari Tomi, a former employee of Nihon Falcom whose credits include Sorcerian, Star Trader, and Dinosaur. After leaving Nihon Falcom, he founded Studio Alex, which functioned primarily as a consultant company.
Studio Alex developed the initial three titles of the Lunar series, with Game Arts as co-developer and publisher. In 2003, the company filed a lawsuit against Game Arts over secondary creator copyrights to Lunar: The Silver Star,[1] but were sued in turn for damages in regards to trouble over the Magic School Lunar theatrical animation, and lost. Studio Alex bankrupted thereafter.)

Iwadare is only one of the 4 people who wrote the TSS soundtrack. Another of those 4 guys, Yoshiaki Kubodera, also contributed to Lunar DS. I did some research about the TSS soundtrack contributors over here.

(Haha, kind of weird to see people copypasting stuff I translated and submitted to Wikipedia.)

I've read people say some things like this before. But then why is Lunar Eternal Blue exactly the same on PS1 then?
Maybe this was also answered and I just forgot :P sorry...

Oh, that's very interesting. I always wondered why there was such a different style to the music of the original LUNAR on Sega CD. I guess that makes sense. I wonder now about who contributed to what track, but that's always a little difficult to figure out, especially with older works.
