Your a winner! That's the whole point of V-day in my eyes. =) Quality time always beats out dinners, candy, flowers, and the like.

I recall seeing a statistic somewhere, the conclusion of which was that couples are more likely to fight on V-day and vacations than any other time.
I've found that I know I have a keeper when we can go on vacation and actually manage to relax. There may be little headbutts, but... that's natural in any unusual situation.

Were I capable of getting involved in an intimate relationship I believe I would start fights just for the make-up sex. Such is not the case.

I've never been a very materialistic person, but I can be a sentimental person. (Wearing cheap bands and stickers I get while in the company of beloved friends for years after the event has taken place, etc.) So the easiest way to slip past my open hostility of gift reception is to get a thoughtful, cheap, gift that has no worth beyond "I know what you like" sentimentality. (I usually still grumble about it but cherish it.)

Like Svet-kun, I really just prefer spending time with the people I care about, being held, and make-believing there is a future in it between me and them.

My birthday was this past Monday, and now Valentine's Day is coming up. I usually don't expect like multiple gifts or anything (especially when my boyfriend already bought me lots of things). O.o

We're going on to be on a trip to visit my family and friends, so it won't be nothing special. ^_^

If you think having a Bday and Vday together was bad... My gf's bday is 12-12, our anniversary (5 yrs, going on 6 now) is 12-17, and then Xmas.. argh.

However, I got her around $150 worth of American McGee Alice stuff, she seems happy. :)

I never noticed the holiday before being with someone. Im not into balloons and plush and Im not big on chocolate. Id rather just spend time together because we dont see eachother much even though we live together because of college/work.
Yeah, that's ridiculously tough. It's so taxing! (on the wallet and mind)

I want to believe in things like this, but I'm honestly beginning to think its just not going to happen.

That's depressing. Why do you think that?

Well, to me a relationship is that simple, but in reality it isn't. When I was dating, it just wasn't enough to be held, to be comforted, to spend time with that person. There was always more that they wanted, and I could never provide it. They wanted nicer food, funner games, more entertainment. I can always provide the comfort, but some of those things I just can't provide.

When not in a relationship, I'm far too shy or awkward to approach anyone. If I do, I typically I do so in a innocent and naive fashion, not realizing the severe consequences or how society reacts to to what is said or how its said. Or I'm just outright creepy. Doesn't help that I naturally have that creepy look either.

If, for some reason, I am able to do ask a girl in a socially acceptable fashion, they are either already A. Seeing someone, B. Think of me as a friend, C. Not interested or D. Not interested in going to the dance/specific movie/whatever, only to find that they did, in fact, do so (which is pretty painful to find out).

phyco, you're situation is alot like some of my male friends. They have the heart but can't find a decent enough young lady that has the same values.

The reason my relationship works is because we always want something better and one another strives to give the other the best possible, and when we can't, sure we're upset, but we work through it because we can't stand to see the other cry. One of us will be happy for the greater good, depending on the situation.

I never had luck with anyone, I was shy and I had what my gf calls "default friends", people you hang out with, they have similar interests, but theyre not your "best friends". I went through a lot of loneliness to get where I am... and the truth is, no matter how shy or akward you are, you have to be strong and find what works for you. It's highly unlikely you'll get anywhere not approaching people (the first person I liked I lost to my "best friend" because I didn't speak up soon enough.. it started a literal war between me and her and it ended up effecting my family too, I was an idiot and almost killed myself over it, but I learned after 3 yrs that I was the one at fault for not stepping up in the first place, even if it was wrong on her end to do such a thing when she knew how I felt), but if you can stand being alone long enough, it might pay off. I've only had 2 relationships, one online, and my current; both approached me. I'm not sure where Im going with this, just trying to share my experiences, I think.

Sorry if none of that makes any sense. Bottom line is just keep hanging in there, things work out, but only if you make a change. If you're as fine a gentleman as you appear to be, you won't have a problem finding someone later down the road. You just need to find a bookworm with a wild side like I did =p

I would be happy too! BEST Valentine's gift EVER! *_*

I actually adore Valentine's Day, whether I'm single or not. I've always liked it, not entirely sure why. I figure all the candy is reason enough to enjoy it. I love the traditional candy hearts. The red, heart shaped, cherry suckers are my favorite though. Back in high school I would buy two or three bags of them and hand out suckers to friends and random people all day. Seeing other people smile and making their day was always a good feeling. :3

I'm like this too, I don't open up to people at first. I don't trust them yet. So I either come across as

1) Creepy
2) Standoff-ish
3) Disinterested

Incidentally, I'm a Cancer so I guess that's kind of normal for me. But it makes me sad, because I'm the same as you. I just want to enjoy someone's company, cuddle and enjoy each other's warmth. That's more than enough for me.

I'm not going to lie, I've done the creepy thing before. Thats where some of the naivety comes in. Oh, and I learned NOT to listen to friends, because if you don't know what to say, and they tell you what to say, chances are, its going to be something you sure as hell NEVER say to someone, EVER.

My friend and I think that it should be renamed Singles Awareness Day, or at least have it captioned underneath
Even though Valentines day is a holiday about Love (which in this day and age we need a day to take time out of our (in my case not so) busy days, and Love) there seems to be a lot of lonely single people like me (who hasn't celebrated a valentines day yet) sad

A little while ago i saw a commercial for a phone thats was $150 and they said it would be the perfect Valentines gift, I would hate it if someone spend that much money one a phone for valentines day, or just spend that much money for Valentines day gift period (how is a phone romantic?). Maybe im just old fashioned and thing that Valentine gifts should either be a cheap but good box of chocolates, a cute teddy bear, flowers, or if you've been together for a year or more nice simple jewelry.

Apple once sent me some spam to the effect that a laptop would make the perfect Valentine's gift. I can imagine how that went over. "Here, have this ridiculously expensive thing that encourages us to spend less time together!"

Everytime we pass the candy hearts (the chalk like ones) all my gf can think/whine is that they no longer say "Fax me." She's strange.
