I thought I'd start this since I already had one internal crap out on me last year, and my old Toshiba laptop crapped out on me five times.
I've got concerns for my new internal, a Western Digital (whose info escapes me for now, at school so ya). If I post what is wrong here, can someone interpret the results for me?

I can try, I've been building computers and dealing with trouble shooting for two years now (as a hobby).

Ditto. I've worked on computers as a hobby for years, and I did it professionally for about two years also.

Is it like a whirling buzz? Because thats fairly normal. The disks spin in hard drives. But if it sounds like a fan hitting something then you might want to check out the exhaust ports.
Otherwise keep the laptop on level ground. Most hard drives last about 5 years.
