So I'm kind of on an adventure...

Last Friday I upended my entire life in Florida, sold or threw away most of everything I own, and loaded up my few remaining possessions into my car and headed West. I stopped in Austin, TX to visit an old friend and break up the trip a bit on the way, and then last night I arrived in my destination: LAS VEGAS!

The drive was amazing. I saw swamps, deserts, and mountains. (Seeing the sun set over the mountains for the first time was particularly amazing.) I had lots of time by myself for introspection, and I had my iPod blasting all the music I love the whole way through the car stereo. It was an experience I'll remember forever.

This was my drive:

So now I'm in a new city, I know exactly two people here (one of whom is letting me sleep on his couch), I've got less than $500 to my name, and I'm starting looking for work right about... now. This is undoubtedly the ballsiest thing I've ever done in my life, and I can't wait to see what my new life holds for me.

I had a friend do something like this. It's continuing to work out for her. I hope you have similar luck!

I knew someone from the Army that did this after they got out. They just went where they wanted and it seemed to work out really well for them. Hope all goes well for you in your new place bud!

Thank you guys for making me feel less crazy about this whole thing! It's something that I've wanted to do for a long time, but I didn't feel ready until recently. Things were going pretty okay for me in Florida, but I've always known that ultimately I'll have to try my luck in a bigger city if I really want to find long term happiness.

I'd actually originally planned to head to LA to pursue music, but a friend of mine (the friend whose couch I'm currently sleeping on) convinced me that Vegas is a better bet. There's lots of performance jobs in Vegas, the cost of living is ridiculously cheap in comparison to LA, and once I'm established here it's only a three hour drive to LA to start making connections out there.

Nice! I thought about doing that and going to the Olympic Peninsula. However, I wouldn't go to a big city. I'm thinking a much smaller city, like Forks or something. I want to be able to sneeze and the whole town know about it. Not very fond of big cities.

That is pretty ballsy though, and I hope it works out!

I've dreamed of doing something like this, but never had the balls to actually follow through. Maybe someday. Good luck to ya!

I drove from Washingon DC to Vegas about ten years ago. I came back home seven years later and even made a topic about it here on the forums. I've been back in DC 3 years now. Vegas is a memory that I will always be happy to remember... Most of it... :|

We need to talk. I think I could help you a little. Where are you living? I lived mainly in Henderson. I heard Vegas is sort of a ghost town nowwadays. There is a lot of places to perform though. Mainly in North Vegas. Random fact -There is also a ton of sushi places and most of them are better (and cheaper) than anything you'll find on the east coast. Good luck with everything though. I think you'll be happy with the move.
