Isle of Man - by Ministry

nice place
clean water
fresh air
blue skies
like pirates
we tried it
we took what we deserved
half million
years later
we'd used up
our reserves
we're crying
'what happened?'
we get what we deserve
we get what we deserve
we get instead the isle of man
the isle of man

i've wandered
through forests
with our garbage
waist-high
can't clean it
i mean it
we get what we deserve
rainy mornings
dry evenings
it's growing
on my nerves
just gases
you fascists
you get what you deserve
you get what you deserve
you get instead the isle of man
the isle of man

i'm writing
this letter
so no one
will forget
some future
cave dweller
will find these notes an isle of man

Astronaut, Amanda Palmer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O6GqCwjh-k

I can't stop listening to it. And the music video has space shuttles. And really good singing! And cool kids. (I want to dress like one of them for my next con.)

Finally, I like how she says "evening."

is it enough to have some love
small enough to slip inside a book
small enough to cover with your hand
because everyone around you wants to look

is it enough to have some love
small enough to slip inside the cracks
the pieces don’t fit together so good
with all the breaking and all the gluing back

and i am still not getting what i want
i want to touch the back of your right arm
i wish you could remind me who i was
because every day i’m a little further off

but you are, my love, the astronaut
flying in the face of science
i will gladly stay an afterthought
just bring back some nice reminders

and is it getting harder to pretend
that life goes on without you in the wake
and can you see the means without the end
in the random frantic action that we take

and is it getting easy not to care
despite the many rings around your name
it isn’t funny and it isn’t fair
you’ve traveled all this way and it’s the same

but you are, my love, the astronaut
flying in the face of science
i will gladly stay an afterthought
just bring back some nice reminders

i would tell them anything to see you split the evening
but as you see i do not have an awful lot to tell
everybody’s sick for something that they can find fascinating
everyone but you
and even you aren’t feeling well

but you are, my love, the astronaut
flying in the face of science
i will gladly stay an afterthought

but you are, my love, the astronaut
flying in the face of science
i will gladly stay an afterthought
just bring back some nice reminders

YES you are, my love, the astronaut
crashing in the name of science
just my luck they sent your upper half
it’s a very nice reminder
it’s a very nice reminder

(and you may be acquainted with the night
but i have seen the darkness in the day
and you must know it is a terrifying sight
because you and i are living the same way)

I'm probably younger, but I did recently buy a Duran Duran compilation album. And liked it.

I forgot we even did this topic. I've been listening to this band practically non-stop for a year now:

Hero by Skillet. I absolutely love this song.

My favorite Jrock band covered this song at the very first anime convention I ever attended.

(I'm such a sap! lol)

So good, and really because of Alan Wake.

Mountain Mirrors' self-titled album. Go ahead and click the link! You can listen to the whole album there, thanks to the magic of Magnatune being not evil.

Excellent Pink Floyd-esque band. They just have the right atmosphere, the musicianship, the song structures... I mean, if someone had released this album as "the lost Pink Floyd recordings" I'd have believed it.

The new Wavves album is out today! The album wasn't supposed to be released for another month, but it leaked online so they went ahead and released it on iTunes. You can stream the whole album here, or just listen to the title track, "King of the Beach," on YouTube:

Unfortunately they aren't releasing the vinyl version until the original planned release date, so I'm gonna have to wait awhile until I can get it. (Yes, I'm an insufferable vinyl-listening hipster.)

I'm currently listening to the new Arcade Fire album on the NPR iPhone app (I'm pretty sure that's the most hipster-esque statement ever put on the Internet.)

You can listen to it on NPR's website as well: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =128878239

I'm not completely done with it yet, but it seems to be up there with Funeral and Neon Bible. The social critique doesn't seem as strong as either of those albums, but it's very enjoyable.

Hah! That's a good one. It does seem that any popular "indie" band is doomed to face disdain from the indie community when they release their second album. The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire (to an extent), and MGMT.

It's that old sophomore slump... but with skinny, emaciated musicians instead of professional athletes.
