Does watching a bunch of disconnected clips of Nichijou / Everyday count? 'Cause I'm all about that right now.

Like, it's actually a really good mix of absurdist and anime comedy. KF

I've been watching The Rising of the Shield Hero on crunchyroll. It's entertaining though a little cliched.

Awhile ago I finished Sarazanmai by Kunihiko Ikuhara. The thing I love about his works are how each is basically [X social issue] THE ANIME! For Example:
Utena: Femminism and Gender Roles: THE ANIME!
Penguindrum: Fate and the nature of family ties: THE ANIME!
Yurikuma: Being LGB in Japan: THE ANIME!
Sarazanmai: Forming connections in a digital age: THE ANIME!
I'd recommend it to anyone who likes through provoking work interlaced with slapstick comedy and random musical numbers.

I've been pretty eager to re-watch the Ninja Scroll series. Such a rare example of where a T.V. series was just as good, if not better than the movie that spawned it. That and I'd like to dive into more of the Fist of the North Star stuff. I've only ever seen the original movie (masterpiece) and the "Legends of the Dark King" series which was fun too.

Of course I buy all of the Attack On Titan stuff on release day of the Blu-Rays. Unfortunately so far, the first season was amazing while the subsequent seasons have been so-so.

I just watched Drifters. It has Elves *and* Samurai. How many other anime can claim that??? It's like they put Rurouni Kenshin and Lodoss War in a blender and it turned out great (or "delicious" if we want to take this analogy to it's logical conclusion lol.) Also the animation is really good, very 90's aesthetic (thick dark lines, intense color contrast) despite being made in 2016 and beyond.

I must disagree about Ninja Scroll: I loved the movie, hated the TV series. Animation budget went down, many throwaway monster-a-week characters, some of whom were downright gross.

I definitely respect this opinion and the rational. I think what helped me out was I was hungry for more Ninja Scroll in the first place. And you're right about the animation budget, but I thought it looked pretty good "for T.V.", whereas when I was a kid you went from Tranformers The Movie to that next season with Rodimus Prime and all of the characters looked like they belonged in a Gumby Show. :)

I think Ninja Scroll is an easy property for me to enjoy. Years ago while looking for more of something like it, I came upon this Anime film called Ninja Resurrection: The Revenge of Jubei. It was marketed in such a way that you actually believed that it was a Ninja Scroll sequel. This was obviously before any resource was around like the internet. The movie itself was alright, but it had nothing to do with Ninja Scroll and it ended without resolving the story began in the movie, with no sequel plans. That was so disappointing at the time.
