The New Parasite Eve

This has a trailer for the new Parasite Eve game. I was really into the first minute, then they started revealing bits of the plot (time travel?!) and FF cut scenes and my faith in it being worth the $30 or whatever they're charging faded.

I think I'd rather just have the original Parasite Eve on PSN so I can play it on my PSP. It was a great game with a well written story that revolved around mitochondria of all things (I remember hearing somewhere that it was based off of a Japanese novel), and innovative combat system, a truly rare video game occurrence: a strong lead female character who isn't dressed in a skimpy outfit. It was awesome.

Then the sequel came out and it seemed like Square was trying to make a Resident Evil game. The characters weren't as interesting, the combat was familiar but nothing special, Aya's character became more cliche and it wasn't a bad game, but it was a really generic one.

Maybe 3rd Birthday will be good if the cutscenes are skipped. The combat in the trailer looked generic too, but it also looked like fun. Anyway, what do you think of the trailer?

I'm sorry. This, to me, has nothing that the first Parasite Eve had, or even the second for that matter! This just looks like another of those tired old "sequels to great franchises to pump money out of fans." I'm sick to death of this third-rate garbage they're willing to throw out into the masses. Maybe when there's more out, I'll be singing a different tune. Maybe a demo will change my mind.

You know what though? Parasite Eve died with the first one. That. Is. All.

I have this game on pre-order but I haven't fully decided on it yet. The first game is one of my favorite on the PSX. I like PE3 as well, just not as much as the original. The guys on the WAHP podcast seem to be enjoying it, which says a lot to me. We'll see...

Knowing our luck it would be some half-assed attempt at an action slasher with all the interesting characters/location/story taken away. They'll have a bunch of call backs to Chrono Trigger because that game was popular and try to be hip and cool by playing on nostalgia.

Parasite Eve (the first one) has the best battle system in a JRPG for me.

I also own PE2, but I'm having hard time playing it, just because of the RE-ness. I'll probably get 3rd Birthday too >.<

but you have to take the PE out of it and just play it as a good 3rd person shooter(My personal fav kind o' shooter)

No, it would be awesome... Because then after donning the Mystere mask, he'd yell "You need a spanking!" and dish out some old fashioned corporal punishment to the gluteus maximus of the opposition!
