So I just got myself a PS3

I mostly got it to replace my ancient (though still functional) DVD player (which doesn't support progressive scan, upscaling, etc. -- anything you'd like to be able to use with a nice fancy big TV) with something that can upscale DVDs and play BluRay movies now that I got a fancy new TV. However, since the thing can also play games, I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations...

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a MUST have for any PS3 owner. Also check out Uncharted : Drakes Fortune. If you like first person shooters, Resistance Fall of Man is great. I also liked Heavenly Sword and Devil May Cry 4. If you want an online game, go for Warhawk.

Really? I Havnt heard one bad thing about MGS4. Well, I loved it. Its probably one of my favorite games of all time. If you check out the reviews on Gamefaqs, about 80% of them are 10s.

Bionic Commando Rearmed on the PSN is pretty sweet. $10 bucks. If you haven't played Ninja Gaiden, then Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a good pick up. To be honest, I haven't bought very many games. It's been used almost primarily for Blu-Ray.

I have all three systems, but a 360 because it just got RROD on me AGAIN. And I think PS3 has the best games and is the best system. 360 is good but it just always breaks, so im done with it. PS3 has great games and doesnt break, so I like it.

A PS3, huh? Nice. I plan to get one sooner or later. I'd recommend games to you, but I've never played any PS3 game aside from Motor Storm at my friends house... which was awful I might add.

I've heard that Metal Gear Solid 4 was good. If I got a PS3, I personally would go for Resistance: Fall of man, but that's just me.

I've had a PS3 since Christmas and I haven't really found any PS3 games worth having. Then again, I'm pretty picky when it comes to newer games. I really wish they'd release some PS classics on the PSN.

You should probably try out Bionic Commando:ReArmed then (free demo download on PSN, the whole game itself is $10). It's basically a NES classic with updated graphics and music.

Admittedly, it's not PS3-exclusive, but it is a classic game, basically.

Congrats! I love my PS3! The only game I've really like so far was MGS4! I only play RPG's and it was awesome! Just make sure you rent games before you buy! I've found that most next gen games suck. I'm waiting for more games to come out... Like Lunar 3! Any day now...

Here's my minimal list of PS3 games that I own.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Sonic The Hedgehog (It was a gift, and the game is just horrible), Devil May Cry 4, and Soul Calibur IV. I only own Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii for my Wii, so the PS3 is winning.

The problem with this generation is multi-platform. It's hard to find exclusive games that are must haves, or rather exclusive to begin with. Lego Batman should be good if you're into that style of game.

Take advantage of using the Playstation Store through your PS3, because you can download demos and even buy games through it that download directly to your system. There is a very interesting looking RPG coming out by SEGA, and it's called Valkyria Chronicles. The art style is fantastic and it will hopefully be an amazing game. There is also Resident Evil 5 coming, and Golden Axe: Beast Rider which seems RPGish.
