Mainly because it bugs me that Marvelous is developing the game and Ubisoft is publishing. Studio Alex or Gamearts isn't making the game so I just can't see how this can be part of the series.

Not again....jeeze.
For the umpteenth time, the only thing confirmed about anything in your post is that Ubisoft is the (US) publisher. The developer has NOT been announced. And it shouldn't matter until we see the game itself anyway. Some developers put out games in their own series which don't match up to earlier installments (I'm thinking Grandia Xtreme here, though I've never played any of the series), and some series have excellent installments which are outsourced (Zelda Minish Cap, Metroid Prime). So how about laying off the negativity until we know something concrete? Better yet, until you've played it, because that's really the only way to form an opinion.

Gamespot, IGN, gamespy, Gamefaqs, PlanetGC, and N-insanity all have confirmation as Marvelous as the developer of the game. That is confirmation enough. Plus I work for N-insanity.

On top of that, you've seen six screenshots. Granted, many have found them to be disappointing so far, but to write a game off this quick, when you know nothing of the story (which is generally why people play the Lunar series) is a bit rash, no?
Okay so we know nothing of the story and you don't care if several gaming news outlets have confirmerd the developer. But doesn't it bother you in the least that Gameart or Studio Alex is not behind the developement. Wouldn't that make it an official Lunar game. Anyone can slap the name lunar on their game and speculatios will fly high.
The only time Ubisoft had anything to do with lunar was when they published Legend in the states. They don't have a say in who makes the game since its not their property. Not only that but I don't recall Gamearts signing off the rights to any other developers.

Hm.
I was prompted to post in this topic because, on looking on RPGFan, I was amused to find that they had declared the developer to be Gamearts.
There was a discussion a while ago, and it amounted to the effect that the major gaming news sources are speculating. RPGFan, according to what is released right now, is speculating too. There is no confirmation in what they've posted. Only the release date has been confirmed, and many have agreed that that will probably be changed. There's no hard info here. .
Though G1 could've been nicer about it, what he was trying to say (correct me if I'm wrong) is that you can't really judge the game at this point. I mean, yes, admittedly, it does make me curious about the finished product, if the game is not developed by Gamearts.
If! We don't even know. Even if developed by Gamearts, you have to remember that a lot of the talent that went into the Lunar games came from outside Gamearts. I can't name the companies off the top of my head and get them right, but I can try. Gonzo, Kadokawa Shoten, ones like that. What if Gamearts is developing, but we don't have them? We could speculate further, but then we're running on assumptions running on assumptions.
As for Gamearts not having signed off the rights, maybe they have and we don't know about it. Maybe they haven't and simply haven't seen fit to announce that they've done absolutely nothing. What we don't recall isn't automatically not true. Yeah, that's a dizzy statement, but so is this whole argument. You're arguing with definites when there is no definite that's been announced.

The screenshots scare me, especially how much the battle screens look like Pokemon. In my opinion Lunar belongs on a home console, imagine a prequel of SSS (the Dyne/Ghaleon story) on Nintendo Revolution?
The initial outlook for Lunar on the DS is not promising at all. Heres to hope though...
At least Grandia III looks amazing.

Where do you think those outlets are getting their "information"? Hint: not from official releases, except for the name of the game and its putatitve release date. They all feed off each other. Once again, they haven't confirmed the developer, they've taken a speculation that started (possibly on this very site) when Marvelous's site listed LUNAR Runa last year and put it down because they have to look like they know something for sure. And people like you assume that they do, even with no source. You probably think Lunar 3 is coming out for PS2 developed by GA and published by WD too...after all, it's on IGN, so it must be true. IGN also says that the SegaCD Lunars and the (unpublished) SSSC PC were developed by Working Designs, which should give you a further indication of their reliability.

You're about six months late with that brilliant insight. Don't you get it yet? Speculation regarding the developer is exactly what's happening, by those sites and by you.

The only time previously that Ubi had anything to do with Lunar was Legend. But currently they are assuredly running the show. The minuscule bits of information that have been officially released have all been from them -- such as the poll to name the game, before it's even been announced in Japan, let alone here. That should clue you in that they're playing at least some role in this beyond merely NA publishing. It should also suggest to you that since they clearly were working with this site to post that poll that maybe you should listen when the site's owner tells you something isn't confirmed? He might know more than you.
Not only that but I don't recall Gamearts signing off the rights to any other developers.
Yep, they certainly never outsourced any Lunar games to Kadokawa Shoten and Media Rings (or Magic Rings, as Gamespot calls them). Oh, wait. Except you probably thing GA developed Legend rather than Media Rings, because IGN says so.

I don't know why you are going on the offensive just because I mention IGn and several other outlets Alunissage.
I'm actually a little offended by that. People like you?! Buddy, I'm a little more educated than that for crying out loud. Of course you aren't going to know that because you assume that I am one of those diehard PS2 loyalists or some Working Designs preacher. I do understand where media outlets get there information and I hate to say it but its not from feeding off each other. Maybe the smaller sites like RPGamer or RPGfan do but not sites with Public Relations.
Not to bash the site admin or to glorify myself but again I do work in the industry. I may not be that high up on the totem poll of gaming journalism but I do get my information.
Now one last thign I'd like to mention. I kinda don't like your attitude towards me. I don't like how I goto a forum and there's tons of people like you who think its their civic duty to march in and put "teh n00b" in their place. Can you please be a little nicer to the new guys no matter how many times you see the same thread or post of whatever.

Tsk, Tsk...It does no good to argue...If people would only apologize and correct their folly, arguements like this would'nt be so long...aye...
Okay, Hacker, listen up. I am tired of your fake assumptions! What is your problem?! Do you just like to mess with 14 year olds, who KNOW they don't lie to people at a site they consider HOME?!! PM ME NOW!

HuBBs, you don't know what you're stepping in. I really can't say more, but trust G1 and Alunissage. They know what they're talking about.

Look, I'm sorry I had to be harsh, but it wouldn't have been necessary if you'd listened to G1 rather than continuing to push. He's *also* a news source (I believe LNet was the first to list the release date), and you're a new member who continues to contradict and contradict. Not very courteous to your host, no? And you really shouldn't assume (if you are) that you're the only one with industry ties here, or that it matters that you have them...they're not necessarily going to help you any here. It doesn't exactly help your credibility for you to cite your own site as confirmation.
I wasn't calling you a diehard PS2 fan (where did that come from???) or a WD preacher (ditto), I was assuming you're someone who trusts big news sites, even when they don't provide sources or press releases and do get things wrong. I cited examples to illustrate this. If you can't tell the difference between that and calling you a blind loyalist to a platform or a company...I don't know what to say.

As much as I love the Lunar, admittingly I'm not going to go out and buy a DS and the game (we're looking at a good 180 bucks, at least) until I know that I'll enjoy it. I've been a gamer long enough to know that you can't say for sure something will be good or bad, but that's what test drives are for. To gauge this sort of thing.

Sooner or later, the visual style was due to change. It looks like at least some of it is a Xenogears/Grandia-style 2.5d, which is to say 2d sprites in 3d space -- and I think this is a pretty good direction to go.
Anyway, what matters is does it FEEL like a Lunar game, and I think this will be hard to judge until I can play the game (or maybe see video of it in action). Plus, like GhaleonOne said, I think the most important element is the story.

For the love of good people, stop your whining. We all thought we weren't even going to GET another Lunar and behold we have. Be happy. We should seriously consider posting up a sign on this board that says: "No whining"
