Re: World Cup contest?
Heh, being that probably a good 60-70% of the people I'm friends with on Facebook are soccer-related, I have never seen such an explosion of status updates at roughly 11AM this morning. I came back an hour later to some odd 60+ status notifications. It was hilarious.
US vs Ghana. Not so cut and dry. Most people seem to forget we lost 3-0 to crash out of the last World Cup four years ago. And that was when our media was just so sure we would destroy lowly Ghana. Still, this is probably the best shot we've had since 1930 at making a run to the semi's. Ghana then almost for sure Uruguay. I invision losing valuable vacation time over the next 2 weeks though. Fact is, there's a very good chance of seeing Brazil vs Spain as early as next Tuesday. That's a final in itself.

Re: World Cup contest?
All they talked about is how this world cup was really gonna open up our eyes.
It did, HOWEVER. I am so sick and -Fatal Hopper- tired of watching us give up goals within 20 seconds of the start.
Food push USA, maybe next year.
Ghana is ferocious, maybe they'll win.

Re: World Cup contest?
No joke. Honestly, we really need a quality foreign coach with experience. We could have had Germany's Klinnsman, but the stupid US soccer federation wouldn't let him take the full squad down to South America for the Copa America. I really think some of these top players that end up chosing their country of nationality instead of the US (Subotic, Rossi, I'm looking at you) would have played for the USA if they knew we had a coach that they could count on.Jenner wrote:All they talked about is how this world cup was really gonna open up our eyes.

Either way, I was really impressed with the way the US could come back from being down. Quality football really.

Ah well, they fought well, but Ghana was just much much faster.
I guess I'm rooting for Germany now! Go Germany!

Braaaaaazzziiiiiiiiiiiilll!!!!! Is it bad I'm going to a bar at 9AM to watch Germany v England? I don't drink of course, but it just seems funny that I'm going to watch a soccer game for breakfast in a bar.
I'm all about Ghana now though. I hope they make the semifinals against Brazil so an African team can say they did well.

Re: World Cup contest?
Holy crap that was bad. I mean, England has a complaint on that goal not counting, and I think it'll bring up the whole video replay argument to the forefront, but really, they can't blame that for their loss. England has just not been that good this tournament.

Re: World Cup contest?
In England's defense, I think if that shot would've counted though, it would've changed the dynamic of the game itself. It would've boosted the moral of the English players, possibly having them play better and possibly keeping them alive.
Still though, it's no excuse for playing like absolute prats in the second half...

Re: World Cup contest?
This World Cups sucks now. Brazil imploded. Or should I say, Felipe Melo imploded. The first goal was his and Cesar's fault. The second goal, he left his guy he should have been marking, allowing him to score the header. Then he goes and gets himself sent off. Stupid stupid stupid. Now I want Argentina to win so that Brazil has to get it together before they hold the World Cup in 4 years.
