Re: Saturn vs. PlayStation

That's assuming we ever get out of Burg. Four hours of play and Ramus still isn't in the party.

Re: Saturn vs. PlayStation

Spouse has started playing SSS (orig) on Saturn, and I have saves from the MPEG version on the same cart, so I may be in a decent position to compare the two. However, since we're playing on an actual console and TV, probably the best I'll be able to do for screenshots is actual photos. But I'll try...

Re: Forums got a new look?

I'd prefer forums too but I've almost never used Discord so I don't have much to compare with. But being able to look at all the past conversations on things at once is invaluable to me.

Re: TSS text fun

His in-menu figure (e.g., when changing the order of the party) also changes -- and he's holding a sword after the change, as well as having the other clothes. His figure before opening the chest does not have the sword.

Re: TSS text fun

One line in Burg I've always thought was a little odd was this one, spoken by the man near the bridge: SO ALEX, WHAT'S WITH THE BRAVE LOOK? HMMMMMMM...... AH, AN ADVENTURE WORTHY OF DRAGONMASTER DYNE! HM! WELL PLEASE BE CAREFUL. THE WORLD IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE! AND DYNE'S SHOES WILL BE TOUGH TO ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I still need to finish FF8 -- I've done literally everything except the last dungeon -- but I got distracted turning part of my Animal Crossing island into Burg. Which is kind of a shame because the island itself is named Lann... but I'll turn a corner of it into fishville later.

OMG. How did I miss that one. I'm not a meme fan, but that is incredible.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

Congratulations! Still playing FF8. I'm not usually a maxing-out player (I like getting all the things, but don't care so much about maxing out levels), but I'm doing it almost by accident just because I'm enjoying the system so much. I'm, haha, just short of where my housemate and I quit 20 years a...

Re: #BringBackLunar

The SSS magic system is pretty minimal compared to the other games, what with everyone having a maximum of eight spells, and fairly uninteresting ones at that. Legend and Harmony added Arts spells for a little extra interest, but some of them were game-breakingly powerful -- Mia's MistVeil was essen...

Re: Saturn vs. PlayStation

Really, really unlikely to be a WD change. I'll try to remember to play the beginning of the Japanese PSX game and find out. Though wasn't it available for download a few years ago? Or I can squint at the screenshots in the Japanese guides, though the pictures in the Dragon Ruins are pretty dark.

Re: #BringBackLunar

It really is a shame Harmony didn't do as well as hoped. The music and the background graphics are pretty nice, especially the dungeon maps. I do feel there's a little issue of scale (the sprites seem a little too big for the backgrounds) that makes some things feel kind of crowded, and I prefer the...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I thought about writing a walkthrough for GameFAQs for Growlanser II but never did. I do have a table of what the starting questions do ("translated" by me from the Japanese guide, at a time when looking up kanji was an intensely painful process involving lots of stroke counting and guessi...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

There was a time I could tell you anything you needed to know about Growlanser II. That time has long passed, but I do still have some notes around. I always have a harder time warming up to FFs myself. I think a lot of that is how the dialogue is presented. With Lunar TSS being my first RPG, I got ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

I played Alundra in 2002, I think. You probably will want the strategy guide, though it's a bit harder to follow than the Lunar ones (but you can see where the style came from in this one). The last dungeon is really complex. Don't be too upset if you don't get the prize for getting all the gold fal...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?

Started FF8 last night. Have been meaning to play it for years. Got it when it came out, housemate play to beginning of disc 3, and then we stopped. And I'd missed some key scenes anyway.

Re: Re-played SSSC, again

I'll have to fire up my PS3 and see what my latest save says. I've been mainly playing on iOS but it doesn't show play time that I'm aware of, and my PSP has run down its battery so I can''t check that save right now.

Re: Speedpaint: 4 hours "No, get back! Get away! One more step and you die!"

Wow, this looks great, Nobi. Though I suppose I could quibble a little with the character design, since that's the SSS outfit with the TSS dialogue and setting. =) I love this interpretation of the scene, though.

Well, good for you for trying new techniques! (Sorry if that sounds patronizing, coming from someone who doesn't really draw/paint herself. I don't mean it that way; I'm trying a different knitting technique and results are less than perfect, shall we say.) Even your practice pieces are well worth s...

Re: Speedpaint: 2 hours "Goodbye Hiro. I will always love you..."

Nobi, I couldn't see the image without right-clicking and viewing image. In case that's a board problem rather than a me problem, I edited the link in. Feel free to remove if you don't want it there. Regarding the picture, I like it! Looks like a good exercise for lighting and shadows. On that point...
