There are a couple of other ways you can run Linux to try it out without nuking your existing installation. Personally, as long as general purpose computers exist, I doubt emulation will be a problem. The core code for emulating CPUs is pretty much done, and much of them are portable across operating systems -- so even if you can't get your emulator to run on Windows, for example, it will certainly run on...
