Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Just finished Grandia II on Steam. Gameplay was pretty good, like an evolved Lunar battle system. I liked the characters, however the plot felt like a rehash of Lunar EB's plot (they're both done by GameArts but still I would have liked more originality.) . It has a unique take on love triangles th...

Re: Activism, Social Justice, Protests and you: The Political Discussion Containment Thread
I've been following the story of Trump's family separation policies with horror. Protests are being planned in DC and elsewhere for June 30th: https://www.familiesbelongtogether.org/

Re: What is Canon?
I generally think the concept of canon as what actually happened is overemphasized by fans of most fictional works. In the particular case of Lunar I think Kei Shigema's explanation works well that one can think of it as a tale told by multiple storytellers who may remember things differently or cho...

Congratulations! We were pretty fortunate in that ours started mostly sleeping through the night after a few months.

Actually, not as many of us were at the WDMB as you might think. I was (it was the first forum I ever joined), and I met G1 there, but Kizyr and Sonic# weren't, as far as I know. I think ImperialKnight posted there too, and a few others. Kizyr was on the Shrine to Ghaleon board, and I dunno about S...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Clunky is a good way to describe a lot of the problems with V. Menus are ugly and unintuitive, controls are unresponsive, things of that sort. If you're willing to work around the problems it can absolutely be an enjoyable game, but I can hardly blame those who aren't. The error you're referring to ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Growlanser II tries its best to fill in the player on what happened in I, but there's no way to reasonably piece everything that happened together because, well, a lot happened in that game. I played through it using the script translation as a guide to what was going on (which is certainly not the ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
In all honesty I don't remember the specifics. I know in IV you can't carry over the Cooperation gems since they'd allow you access to powerful magic from the beginning. I could see Memory of Alviis being excluded on the same basis, but I don't remember for sure. I think you probably can carry over ...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Yes, I did the Wolfgang branch but it's been so long I've forgotten much of it. I'm making sure to set myself up to be able to do it this time, i.e., making sure I get a Mission Complete rating for each battle and finding the necessary story scenes. Your memory is correct that on New Game+ your char...

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
I recently got the itch to revisit Growlanser II . The last time I played it was roughly eight years ago. Here's some thoughts now that I'm five hours and some change into my current playthrough. -I'd forgotten just how much of the story is optional/missable. I've gotten in the habit of going back a...

Re: What is a good job?
I have never been involved in making a hiring decision, but the impression I get is that some employers want to do as little training of their hires as possible, so they think they're being efficient by simply making a laundry list of whatever technical skills they need and only considering candidat...

Re: What is a good job?
Regarding jobs, it's useful to keep in mind that any field will probably demand some hard skills and some soft skills, and hiring managers like that you have at least one of a few soft skills or qualities: communication, leadership, analysis, integrity, and responsibility. (Those are also useful fo...

Between increasing polarization and the ability for people to seek out like-minded internet communities, it's more important than ever for all of us to remind ourselves that not everyone thinks the same way as we do and that reasonable people can disagree. When you write off views different from you...

I'm still fond of the theory I put forth on the now long-defunct boards at LunarEB, that Mystere is in fact General Leo from FFVI in disguise.

Re: What Are You Currently Playing?
Playing Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA), one of many games I started but failed to finish years ago. It had been a long time and I had no memory of basically anything about it, so I started over from scratch. Honestly a part of what motivated me to pick it up again was that I'd been hearing a l...

Re: Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword
I admittedly haven't played a ton of Fire Emblem but in what I've played I've always gone for supports based on storyline reasons. Seems more fun to me than trying to min-max. Honestly one of the things I liked about the support system is how it felt different from relationship systems in other game...

Re: Dunkirk
I would say there's a pretty clear plot, just told from multiple perspectives and in a nonlinear fashion. It's certainly not at all character-driven though. The characters tend to have little in the way of backstory and there's relatively little dialog.

We went to see it, but between being pretty far from the path of totality and it being a cloudy day the view wasn't as spectacular as it could be.
