So I'm going to Rome on Friday

Post by RubyFatale »

It's my graduation present. Of course, my mom and one of her friends are going, too. We'll be spending ten days in Rome. We're leaving for an airport in FLA on Friday to fly to Atlanta (Why can't we fly from where we are? I don't know). But yeah. We're going to be hittin' up all the really pretty churches, like St. Peter's Basilica, and some other places too. I'm really hoping we can go to St. Paul's Outside the Walls because its one of the last REALLY REALLY Roman architectural churches.

So yeah. Starting with Mass everyday. Should be fun. Except for the fact that apparently we have to keep our shoulders covered. But whatever. I'm bringing my tanktops. It's going to be hot as holy hell there. Lol.

My digital camera's memory card is 2 Gig, so I'll be able to take about 800 pictures. When I get back, I'll post the coolest/funniest ones for you guys to see.

Most definitley post pictures when you return! I've never been out of this country before and I would love to see pictures at least! Though you are making me rather jealous... =P

Have fun!

Well, I certainly hope you have fun.

...I gotta be honest, I was rather bored when I was there. We had a run of bad restaurants (with only one exception), and while some of the Ancient Roman ruins were interesting, nothing was really that captivating. Though, we only stayed there for 3-4 days, and we'd just come back from Albania (which is an amazing country, by the way).

If you have more time there, I'd actually advise that you try and see if you can get out of Rome and check out some places further north, like Florence or Milan (not Venice--that city has a reputation of being overrated...). Hopefully if you'll be staying there for a while, you'll have a real enjoyable time and manage to avoid the lackluster elements of the city {^^}. KF

Boy you yound wipersnappers have it good these days. Back in my day, if we wanted to go to Europe we had to swim butt naked across the Atlantic ocean!

Hehehe, but seriously, hope you have a good time. I loved Europe myself, though I don't recall if we ever went that far south.

My guess is Catholics would be more inclined to like Rome, as much of the city is built around it. That and those that want to see the ancient Roman Empire ruins. I would second Milan though, but that's more because of it's amazing football history, and the Italian league is out of season now anyways. Plus, you'd have to be a fan of the sport to enjoy it.

But I've never been there (or even out of the country) so I can't comment much.

Well, I'm excluding the Vatican from that. St. Peter's Basilica and all that was quite lovely. But that was only one part of the city (well, technically, it's not Italy, but anyway...). And I really do like ancient Roman history, just it was mad crowded no matter where you went, and once you got there, the ruins were kind of underwhelming. Parts of the forum were good, though. KF

Wooo its 3 am and I'm leaving to the first airport in six hours! Then we're flying to Atlanta to fly out of the country. Wooo. Ten days in Rome. I really REALLY hope I get to see St. Paul's Outside the wall...

Apparently we're looking at the catacombs too.

I just hope I get bunched in with the group that has all of the students from my HS going. I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of kids from "that OTHER Catholic high school". Eh, if worst comes to worst, I'll just have to make friends.

With my 800 pic memory card there will be plenty of stuff to look at when I return, hehe.

But yeah. Twelve burned CDs later, I need to go to bed.

Thanks guys. Ill see you in ten!
