I saw this movie and found it impressive enough to own. Have any of you seen it yet?

I saw it. I thought it was great. And I was impressed with Hugo Weaving, who's become well-known, for taking a role where we never get to see his face. But the story was very compelling.

I've seen it twice, once by myself, once with my family. I really enjoyed it... there are a few images that really get me (the sun between the two women before they kiss, and then being enveloped, the raw red hands V has as he cooks breakfast), and... yeah.

I was surprised to find out that I liked it. I HATE Natalie Portman, especially her freakish ears in that movie.
But I love V. I love his whole V speech in the beginin'.

Overall I thought the movie was really well done, even if the author didn't like it.

No, really, I haven't seen the movie yet, however, it is on my to see list, and quite high I might add. Though I love Natalie, I do have to admit I want to see the movie more for the whole "V" thing than anything, as I kind of like the idea of one guy's vigilantism against dictator like governments. Though I also have to admit, the movie might be higher on my list of movies to see if America was at least a freedom loving superpower still. >_>

This movie was brilliant! I believe I fell in love with it after V made his opening speech with alliteration... wonderful!! I most certainly picked this up as soon as it came out, and recommend it to all who will listen.

I don't like her actin' at all. All the roles I've seen her do are always off in some manner. I will say that she was tolerable in V for Vendetta, maybe it's because I like the story and everythin' else that is goin' on around her.

Charles, you're my good friend and all, but sometimes you make statements that make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I know you love supporting America and patriotism etc., but that statement makes no sense AT ALL--

A movie set in a SPECULATIVE post-semi-Apocalyptic future where America has collapsed is neither a patriotic nor anti-patriotic statement of any sort.

That statement you just made is NOT patriotic - it's you trying to have an "opinion" and clinging to it so strongly that you'll insert it into places that don't even make sense.

Saying "I'd like this movie better if America were still a strong power in this imaginary future" has absolutely nothing to do with being patriotic, which if that's what you're trying to do, you haven't succeeded. You've just made an absurd statement that has nothing to do with patriotism, but rather your own personal agenda for being passionate about something, just for the sake of being passionate about ANYTHING.

I'm sorry, I just....I'm not angry or anything, it's just.....why on earth would you go out of your way to say something so odd and nonsensical? Sometimes, your opinions just flabbergast me because they come off as so arbitrary and out of the blue.

If there's something I'm missing here, please - explain it to me. But back it up with rationality and logic.

As for the setting of the movie, the entire point is that it's SUPPOSED to be devastating that America collapsed, because now England has become a tyranny. But the movie is centered around England, well, because that's what it's about.

And before anyone else misunderstands me, believe me, I AM patriotic - I believe in what this country stands on and what its dreams were and upholding that. It's just that we're talking about a work of fiction set in a speculative imaginary future setting, and American patriotism has nothing to do with it. It's like saying "This movie didn't have enough goats".

I was quite fond of the movie, although I was a bit disappointed by a few things.
For one, the need to have Evey's parents be activists really took away from the original message that even the ordinary person could have the power that V did.
Secondly, I wish V had been giving less human qualities- even the way he moved his head, and the way he talked to Evey near the end. I suppose I never really pictured him reacting in the same way ordinary human's did- true, you can't see the emotions on his face, but if his emotions show physically the effect of him being the symbol of England is lessened.

Either way, it was a fairly good movie; the things that I mentioned above are mostly just me being nitpicky.

I love the scene where the woman asks him a question that's something to the effect of "is an apology meaningless?" and he replies with "Never."

It really spoke to his character.

Well, I wasn't trying to be patriotic. I was saying that because I generally hate the notion that America went from superpower to nothing more than a wasteland of pain and suffering. I know it's always a possibility, and films like these explore futures of how the world would be like without America, or without England, etc etc etc. Hey, if it makes you feel any better, I didn't want to see Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy because Earth was blown to pieces, but when I did watch it I was awefully satisfied with the end. Or The Postman, I love that movie because it's set in a post-WWIII world where america is nothing but a land with small colonies of people living, and one dictator who leads an army and rules by fear. Then one man rises up and restores the United States, and rides with an army of believers to fight against the dictator and his army. I dunno, I don't mean to make no sense, but you know, it's hard for me

Yeah but, Dark Angel is set in a post-EMP United States where the US has turned to a third-world country full of corruption and poverty. And it has Jessica Alba. I still feel very satisfied with watching it.

The "alternate history - tyranny" thing comes up in a lot of anime, as well. One of my personal favorites, Jin-Roh, is set in an alternate timeline where Japan was victorious in WWII but descended into a militaristic police state. Battle Royale is actually set in the same scenario. The hypothetical scenarios that say "if such and such happened, then our country would be in awful shape" is more of a testament to how good things are now, than to how bad it could possibly get. KF

Yessir. Lots of love for that series as well as Jessica Alba... is it bad that I'm a female and I too notice that she is... well... hot? It's not an attracted to her hot but more of a I can see what the guys mean kind of hot. Though I thought she looked better in season one with the wavy hair... and natural makeup instead of how she ended up around cancellation.

Why'd there be anything bad with that? Most (straight) girls have an easier time telling if their own gender is attractive than (straight) guys do. Even then, I can tell, say, why girls would find George Clooney, Pierce Brosnan, Jude Law, or Ken Watanabe hot, but those are isolated examples, and typically I have no clue.

Alba did look good with more of the "natural" glow and all, and with the wavy hair. Actually I think she's looked better in Dark Angel than anything she's subsequently done.

I still really want to see V for Vendetta, though; missed it when it was in theaters. But it's entirely to do with the plot and background, than the cast. KF

Since it's all an "eye of the beholder" kind of thing, straight guys can usually only really tell who counts as repulsive (generally speaking) and who falls into the "hot" category.

Just checking... I wasn't sure a comment like that would have been well recieved (why? I dunno.. paranoid much?). I do have to agree that she did look better in Dark Angel than anything else I've seen her in... and I do believe her look and her "badass-ness" is what attracted me to the series in the first place. Yes.

Err... sorry to get so far off topic... V.. great move! Go see it.
