Alunisage wrote:Nobi, remind me why you created this character? My recollection is that she is intended as a mascot for a girls' gaming site, to encourage girls to play games more. So naturally you have depicted her in a pose designed to draw attention to her sexual characteristics and leaning on her elbows in such a way, as my husband noted, as to make using the controller nearly impossible. Nice job drawing yet another token girl pretending to play while serving as eye candy for the all-important male eye, that REALLY makes you stand out from the crowd as a fanartist.

As always, you miss every point, in a conversation which wasn't even directed at you. While leeching someone else's bandwidth.

LAWL tripod.

Once again you throw away the opportunity to take the high road and ignore me.

Let's cool our heels. Next time host the images yourself B_G, or at least use the ones on LunarNET. No leeching bandwidth.

Also, why should someone ignore comments that they disagree with? (Though it would've been better if Alunissage's comment was more substantial.) That is a purpose of a forum after all, to talk, even through disagreements. And I hardly need to point out your hypocritical statement, B_G, failing to take the "high road" yourself. Let's keep the trolling to a minimum.

A friend called and i was telling him about the Giga Girl situation that was going on and who was involved and all of that. He ended up saying "Wait. So you're telling me that there was an argument about objectifying women..on a LUNAR board? Lunar has plenty of sexist stuff going on there! Look at the bromides and the Dark Althena outfit!"

And we observed them and laughed.

I like the picture. To me it looks like the girl has been playing that game for awhile. I can't just sit the same way for an hour. I sometimes sit like that. I think she's dressed just fine. Looks like something she would just walk around the house or yard in. To me this says that its cool for girls to play video games. I think this would be sad to call eye candy for guys. I would hope no one gets turned on by this. If they are...then they need to get out more. I'm a guy by the way and I have played video games with girls who dress like this while playing. Last time it was sonic 2 while at a slumber party. It was fun! :)

If someone were to respond with absolute hatred to something because it offended people anywhere in it... well, they wouldn't like very much. Something can be less than ideal without being objectionable.

If all Lunar had in it were bromides and such, then that would be a problem. Same with any other media. It's not... and there are tons of cases where women aren't objectified. (Where they're portrayed positively in fact, something you couldn't have missed.) The difference between considering a piece of artwork and considering a game is... well, a large finite increase in content.

You and your friend are both missing the mark.

I'd say you just missed the mark. We observed the sexism we could find in Lunar and laughed at THAT.

Even with this image, sexism isn't ALL that's there. Of course, some is there. I think the hormones along with the fact that we can only exist as one sex and therefore only PERCIEVE as one sex means that some will always exist. y'know..same concept as the difference between sympathy and empathy.

I'd say that more often than not, the sexism isn't entirely blatant and that things can hold a degree of it while still not showing women as "nothing more" than objects of lust. I'd say that lustful perceptions of someone aren't bad as long as the person having the perception sees more and that perceptions of the sort towards things without feelings (Giga Girl, for example) aren't bad at all.

You missed the mark! (If I had a penny for all the times we missed a mark...)

...

But just in one sense. My response wasn't really to you and your friend laughing, but at the earlier comment, as if a Lunar fan commenting on sexism elsewhere is hypocritical.

Assuming I read your response right, I can mostly agree, provided your two caveats stand, and that those feelings toward an inanimate object don't manifest themselves on real people.
