Okay, Nintendo, I've traded in all your junk for a PS3.
I've traded in my Wii, DSi, and all my games and accessories for both for a PS3 at Gamestop. The employees were sorta flabbergasted when I came in with a huge box with all this stuff to trade in, but the guy who sold me my PSP ended up doing the whole transaction and we had a big laugh about how apparently Sony has me by the balls now.
With all the stuff I traded in, I had enough to get a new "slim" PS3, a second wireless controller, and five games. I ended up getting Street Fighter IV, Demon's Souls, Modern Warfare 2, Batman: Arkhum Asylum, and Assassin's Creed II. I wanted to get Dragon Age: Origins instead of Assassin's Creed, but they were sadly sold out.
Batman is so far my favorite game of these. The stealth sequences keep me on my toes, the Riddler puzzles keep me thinking and exploring, and it's overall just a really fun game. I'm also really enjoying Demon's Souls, even though it's fatal hopping hard. Modern Warfare seems alright, but it's my first shooter since Doom and I'm still adjusting. Assassin's Creed is okay from what I've played so far, but it's sort of slow in the outset.
Oh, and it turns out that I'm even worse at Street Fighter than I remember from Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis. I made this big trade about a week ago and I still haven't won a single online fight. At this point I'm just keeping it so I have a local multiplayer game when friends come over, but if anyone has any good suggestions for something I could trade this in for I'd be all over it. Preferably something that isn't a fighting game, since it seems I'm patently awful at them.

Wow, that's a big trade-off. O__o
From what I know, that Street Fighter game is being remade into Super Street Fighter IV, that is suppose to improve upon Street Fighter IV (which is good because I hate SF IV the way it is now). I'm pretty terrible at it too, but then again, I am playing on a 360 controller. I would go ahead and trade that in since SF IV really isn't that good in my opinion. \
I don't really know that many games for the PS3, though. I know that Little Big Planet is fun for multiplayer stuff though. I've played it at a friend's house before and really enjoyed it. There's also Devil May Cry 4 which is pretty awesome. You don't need to play the previous games to play it either. Or if you really want another fighting game that's better than SF IV, Blazblue: Calamity Trigger is awesome, and it's one of the few fighting games that actually has a decent storyline from what I hear. I haven't played it yet myself, but I've hear good reviews and watched the opening of the game. It's one of the games I plan on playing within the next week or two. ^^;

Give Assassin's Creed a chance, it'll give you a lot of good moments for a pretty good chunk of gameplay. Plus the puzzles in it are very fun as well as you decode different bits of what's known as "The Truth." As for Modern Warfare 2, the multiplayer adds enough variety to keep you playing it for a while and the single player campaign will make you feel as though your testicles are being plastered against the proverbial wall during action sequences. Also the Spec Ops missions are some of the funnest co-op you could ever share with a friend or someone you would at least trust to throw bullets at something.
Arkham Asylum was one of the best choices you could have made. It's smooth transition between stealth and combat make the game new every so often and the Riddler puzzles as well as Scarecrow sequences are enough to make it my game of last year. Not to mention there's nothing like taking on ten plus enemies in what's one of the most fluid combat engines I've ever had the pleasure of playing. As for the other two, I can only comment I've heard how unforgiving Demon Soul's is so I can certainly share some amount of the pain, and I decided to skip out on SFIV due to extreme indifference.
All in all, good choice made there with your trade in.

Modern Warfare 2 is the reason I like realistic war games now. I have never before played a war game of that type that I actually enjoyed. The others I haven't played.
I'm really looking forward to playing MAG, Heavy Rain, and FF XIII

Honestly, the only thing I use my PS3 for is FIFA and Blu-Ray. Though I do plan on hitting up FFXIII when it comes out. Hopefully it's better than XII was.

wow thats a lot of trade in, you seem to really not like Nintendo, even so it must of been a little hard to get rid of all that, it would have been if it was me, but iv never traded in anything before. I hope it was worth it for you ^^
I haven't got a PS3 yet, currently there's only a hand full of games i want for it (cant wait for FFVersusXIII). I hope to get a PS3 some time this year...

Welcome to the loving arms of Sony aka BIG BROTHER.. But anyway, I love my PS3.. I guess it's because I've been paying God-like homage to Sony from the beginning with my PS1.. Hmm, I've just gotten done with AC2 (and may i say it was amazing) and am contemplating what next to move on to.. Prolly going with Dante's Inferno when it releases and most deff FFXIII.. I actually liked how FFXII was going.. They jumped to the new pseudo-turn based style, and, after some playtime, I really caught on to it.. Not to mention the graphics were amazing for a PS2 game.. Back to the point, Sony rules and Nintendo started loosing my interests at the birth of the Gamecube anyway.. lol

Don't get DA:O on the console. It's best on PC. Pick up Uncharted 2, however. It's an orgasm with a controller.

Yeah, I'm definitely not trading it in for another fighting game, especially not a new version of Street Fighter IV. The whole point of asking for recommendations is that I want a local multiplayer game that isn't a fighting game. I'm bad at them.Dark_Fairy wrote:Wow, that's a big trade-off. O__o

I've got nothing against Nintendo, I just feel like I've gotten everything I needed to out of the Wii and the DS. I had gotten myself a new PSP a few weeks earlier, so having both that and a DS seems sort of silly, and the list of upcoming Wii games that I'm looking forward to is not nearly as long as the list of PS3 games both upcoming and in the backlog that I want to play. In fact, the only Wii games I can honestly say I'm looking forward to are the new Zelda and Metroid games, and while I'll miss being able to play these games, there's a whole bunch of other great games I can play right now on the PS3.Kaiya-Sky wrote:wow thats a lot of trade in, you seem to really not like Nintendo, even so it must of been a little hard to get rid of all that, it would have been if it was me, but iv never traded in anything before. Hmm... I've done some searching and it seems they've released a Mac version of Dragon Age, and it seems it would run on my Macbook Pro, which is pretty awesome. I suppose I may have to heed your advice here and get that version.Jenner wrote:Don't get DA:O on the console. It's best on PC. Pick up Uncharted 2, however. It's an orgasm with a controller.
Also, Uncharted 2 is now added to my list of PS3 games I need to get around to.

Definitely get Uncharted 1/2 and Valkyria Chronicles. Can't forget inFamous.
Uncharted, VC and inFamous were the reasons I picked up a PS3.

I'll second that. Valkyria Chronicles is a masterpiece and is pretty cheap if you can find it.Sonix wrote:Definitely get Uncharted 1/2 and Valkyria Chronicles. Can't forget inFamous.

Check out Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I'd easily give that the title of best PS3 game. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is pretty great as well.
Though I do plan on hitting up FFXIII when it comes out. Hopefully it's better than XII was.
The gameplay is structured somewhat like 10. It uses the same "yellow brick road" style of exploration, and there's an enhanced version of the Sphere Grid. The battle system is something of a weird combination of Persona 3(you can only control one character and set up the AI for the others) and Final Fantasy 10-2(you can switch your class mid battle).
This is all just from what I've read, so I can't offer any hands on advice. The story and characters look interesting to me. It's back to being extremely sci-fi though, which I know will turn some people away.

I actually really liked FFX's straight-forwardness, so I'm quite fine with that. As long as the story and characters are top notch, I'll be happy. I felt FFXII lacked a really good story. I actually gave up on it most of the way through. Though the battle system was fun.

You're not alone GhaleonOne. I use my PS3 A LOT for DVD and Blu-ray, PS2 playing, but little PS3 playing outside of MGS4. Although, this all might change since I'm actually interested in a whopping 4 PS3 game in the next few months (Heavy Rain, Yakuza 3, God of War 3 and 3d Dot Game Heroes). As for the Wii, I pretty much only play shooting games on it now (HotD Overkill, HotD 2&3, etc.)...

Re: Okay, Nintendo, I've traded in all your junk for a PS3.
I was watching a lot of FFXIII on justin.tv when it arrived in Japan, and it can be a bit boring to watch when you don't understand the story. The game seems to be driven by story, but a lot of people were disappointed with it because rpg staples are non-existent in it. There are no towns to explore for 90% of the game, but even then you can't make store purchases. Everything is done through the save locations where you access the shops through a network system.
It's one of those games that people seem to love or hate, but I didn't care for FFXII at all and even that had the nostalgic victory fanfare at certain points. FFXIII is missing the victory fanfare and the prelude is nowhere to be found which devastates me. The music is a mixed bag, but there are some worthy tracks in the game. I didn't find anything in XII to be memorable. All videos in the PS3 version are native 1080p, and the music is uncompressed unlike the Xbox 360 port. I just wish the game would have stayed a PS3 exclusive, because there was a rather large chunk of the game removed due to size limitations on the 360. The game also seems rather difficult, because if the leader dies it's game over. You can at least restart right where you died though.
So how are you liking your PS3, liquid?

I don't think 13 has much in common with 12. 12 was plot driven like FF Tactics(only Tactics actually pulled it off effectively), while 13 is more character driven like 10.
This video actually does a pretty good job of showing what the game is like.
