Re: Nobi's diet blog of dictation, observations, and suggestions
Hello everyone,
Yes, I'm still doing this. It's just been... difficult lately. I had a new bout with Gastritis where it literally hurt to not have anything in my stomach, which caused me to put on 10 lbs. I was quite depressed, and didn't really want to talk about it. 3 medical procedures later (blood test, CT Scan, and Endoscopy), I've lost 8 of the 10 I had put back on and am back at 207.
I've been really frustrated at making basically 0 progress this year. I joined a gym a few months back, but it hasn't done much yet. Partially my fault, I haven't gone enough. Still frustrating though, and I didn't want to just keep ranting about my troubles and fish for sympathy etc, so the thread died for a while. Sorry about that.
I'm basically back on the wagon though, so here's hoping I can lose a few lbs. before years end.

Hey, you've still lost quite a bit from your starting weight. Maybe, you should focus right now on the exercise part. Losing weight is great, but exercise is probably more important for your health. Set goals for exercising and when you're comfortable with an exercise routine go back to the diet. You may be trying to make too many changes at once.

Not to mention exercise actually goes a long ways towards losing weight. Do you know how many calories running can burn? Or even walking? Couple that with a diet, and now we are talking.
Add in weight training, after a few years the added pounds of muscle will burn calories as you sleep, making you epppiiiiicccccc.

True enough. I just gotta get this going again somehow. Last year was awesome, this year, not so much.

This week's Saturday update: I'm at 206.4 this morning. Moving down slowly, but at least it's in the right direction.

Any progress should be celebrated in my opinion. I'm about ready to make lunch for today. Whole wheat pasta with pesto. That's pretty healthy, right? I mean besides all the cheese that goes into the pesto.

Re: Nobi's diet blog of dictation, observations, and suggestions
A possible problem for a bit. I slipped and fell about halfway down my stairs this morning. My neck is still very sore, so I'm not going to go to the gym for a while and see if my neck decides to fix itself or if I'll need physical therapy.
... I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another.

I second that Phyco, Nobi you don't want to mess with your neck. I hope it feels better soon.

Thirded! Necks are important. They hold up the head and all.
I actually recently started a new diet. It's called "not having the time to eat three meals a day." I'm two weeks in, and I think I actually am losing weight.

Ha, I've started the "GOD I'm so tired that I'm going to sleep another 15 minutes and not eat breakfast diet."Vyse of Arcadia wrote: I actually recently started a new diet. It's called "not having the time to eat three meals a day." I'm two weeks in, and I think I actually am losing weight.
I don't know how I'm doing 'cause I don't have a scale.

Thread necromancy!
I started eating steel cuts oats for breakfast, and I remembered Alunissage talking about steel cut oats years ago. This recipe is amazing! You can have your oatmeal cook overnight in a crockpot. This way when you wake up all you have to do is scoop the oatmeal out of the crockpot and make a cup of coffee.

I love steel cut oats!
Normally I'm against fad diets, but I've switched to a gluten free & dairy free lifestyle toward the beginning of the year. I found avoiding gluten, dairy and high carb foods has been the key to staying in shape for me. I think it's definitely worth a shot for anyone looking to lose weight.

I've been considering going on Mark Bittman's diet VB6 (vegan before 6). http://www.amazon.com/VB6-Before-Weight ... n+Before+6
It's a diet of flexitarianism that encourages eating more vegetables, fruits, and whole grain but allows for the flexibility to eat a steak for dinner with friends. I think the more vegetarian food we eat the better for the health of our bodies and planet. So far it has been hard for me to give up adding a bit of cheese to my meals though.
