Remastered collection should have extras?

This board is for general discussion of Lunar. Especially things such as Lunar merchandise, general discussions about the story that span more than one game, etc.

Remastered collection should have extras?

Post by jos24 »

I agree that a remastered game only has graphic and sound improvements, but what if they could include some extras that were pending in a beta or ideas that did not make it to the final version? Maybe an epilogue in Lunar 1 where you can walk around with Luna and some extra dungeons (With the sunken goddess tower and the change in the map, secret caves and monsters could appear) or visit the blue spire or at least add the Sega CD or GBA versions as unlockables, respect Lunar 2 I feel quite complete

What additions would you put?

I thought the addition of the scene in Lunar Silver Star Harmony was pretty neat, and I wouldn't mind seeing a descaled/PS1 version of it, even as an optional extra.

New content in the graphics of SSSC would have been really cool. Despite my dislike for Harmony, i did enjoy the prequel they gave.

I'd want a gallery of promotional artworks, trailers, commercials, etc.

I'm expecting it'll just be the games themselves though.

I like this idea too. I have looked at both the remasters for Legend of Mana and SaGa Frontier in the last few days. (I already played LoM; just got SaGa Frontier.) They have some sketches and development art. It'd be nice to see something similar for Lunar.

It's a little interesting to me that this topic is about game content rather than knickknacks that might come with a physical release. Admittedly I'm pretty indifferent to knickknacks at this point.

Galleries would be excellent though. If Gung Ho is willing to play ball with WD, I bet they could get the Making of videos. Imagine if they got Lords of Lunar working on there...

I’m just glad I don’t have to bust out my PS3 to play PS1 LUNAR. I’ve been thinking about it, and while I do still have some games to just beat if I’m being finnicky both PS1 and PS3, times have been getting there to where I might want to put my PS3 away - aside from maybe playing DVDs here-and-there.

Haha! That's what I do to play SSSC and EBC. Over the past 10 years that's where I've played LUNAR a few times. Mine is hooked up, though, but i hardly use it. I only use my PS4 and PS5 for the most part.

DVD's & Blu-Ray are used on the PS4 and PS5 too

Totally! Totally glad + thankful for PS3’s backward-compatibility for PS1, - I actually have a handful of RPGs for the PS1 sitting in my backlog I’ve yet to finish they’re just staring me in the face & ofc whenever I get the itch I play the LUNARs or whatever WD game I’m fixated on (for example I wanna finish all 3 branches in Vanguard Bandits). I’m just in that transitional period where I’ve added the PS5 to my family and maybe time to play new games a little on there while an older console like the PS3 sits on the backburner. Just juggling finishing up some PS3 games too while tryna stay current and up to date. I’ve actually been stuck FOR YEARS just with a PS3 and I’m now trying to climb out of it and move on a little. :)

I wish you luck with all that. Sincerely! It's so difficult catching up on video games with so many new releases. Sometimes I find myself getting overwhelmed like an animal caught between food and drink. However, i ultimately realize that fun is fun. No matter what decision i end up, I'm going to dive in to that video game world and have fun whether it's an older game or a new game.

I haven’t done enough JRPG research for the PS4/5 to know which games to get, I’ll have to some-time. It just bugs me when I leave JRPG games incomplete or, err… not 100% completing them, ‘cause I’ve always done “perfect” games when I was younger! You know having 3 faqs/walkthroughs open at the same time and cross-checking everything I have to get done. I hate slowing down so to speak.

I’ve been hyperfixated on my PS1 list for example:
-Getting all the girlfriends/love interests in Azure Dreams
-getting all the toys in Brave Fencer Musashi
-200.6% in Castlevania Symphony of the Night
-all chars in Chrono Cross
-finishing the game with all the chars in Revelations Series Persona
-doing both chars in Star Ocean: 2nd Story
-maxing out all the love interests/girlfriends in Thousand Arms
-doing all 3 branches in Vanguard Bandits (I’ve thought abt cheating: and not having it be all on one save file, I’ve gone thru the Kingdom and Empire Branch so I just have to run thru the Ruin branch and I’ll be done. I thought it’d be tedious to run through all of them again.)

Just to name a few.

Thousand Arms is such a little gem. I love Chrono Cross so much. Beat it many times. I played Star Ocean 2 on PSX first, but it's now out for PS4 as a remaster which was really fun too.

Suggestions for JRPGs for PS4/PS5 off the top of my head

Ys 8, 9, 10, Memories of Celceta.
Trails Series (Legend of Heroes)
Visions of Mana
Trials of Mana
Tales of Berseria
Tales of Arise
Atelier Ryza Trilogy
Atelier Sophie 1 and 2

Yeah Thousand Arms I beat for the first time a while back I’ve always wanted to level up all the girlfriends though. I fired it up recently and the battles were hard. I was gonna go through Chrono Cross with a friend online but he suddenly got busy there’s some characters I still have to get like namely Janice. I really wanna go through Star Ocean 2 with Rena on the original just so I can call it complete, I did recently receive the remake doe, we’ll see if I have time to go thru the orig first.

Ah, thx for the suggestions

-I’ve never played Ys before 😲
-I do have the first Cold Steel for PS3 was wondering if I should just get it for PS4
-I recently beat Legend of Mana lol and I do have Trials waiting on the Switch whenever I get to it
-Oof, Tales. I do have some of the games whenever I get around to playing them

I just finished the 6 PS3 Atelier games and had a blast!! I started off w/ Sophie on PS4 but decided to take a break for now I will get back to it though mostly because I wana play Ryza lolz.

Rn, I’m mostly f-ing arnd. with PS1 titles I’ve yet to finish like now I’m goin’ thru Legend of Dragoon

You're welcome! I found Ys to be a treat. I had heard of it for many years, but started playing it on PS4 with YS VIII. I thought it was magical. Dana from the game kind of reminded me of a Luna/Lucia mix in a way. She felt very special and magical to me. The series itself is built around adventure. It's a true adventure RPG. I've now played YS 8, 9, 10, and Memories of Celceta which is a remake of 4 or 5 i think? I can't remember which one.

Ah, thx for the suggestion !, I appreciate it. :) I had heard of Ys before, …I was hanging out with a friend of mine and he’s a bit older than me abt video games, RPGs and such, and I was asking him how it was like buying video games when he was young (and I was much younger). Said he always wanted and was never able to find a game called Ys for SNES I believe. I was always curious how RPG gamers hunted down RPGs back-in-the-day like in the 90s and before the internet…

Okay, I’ll check it out. I’m always up for new RPG series to tackle. I just have so many games to tackle and imagine rn I’m playing a PS1 RPG 😅 I feel like I’m lagging behind, it’s all so daunting.

Another friend of mine is also a huge Ys fan and he had suggested starting w/ Ys Origins.?

You certainly can, but in the world of Ys it doesn't matter where you start. I just thought Ys 8 was simply magical in so many ways. Maybe i'm building it up too much, lol!
